Sales are not for quitters. They are not for people who are not persistent and can’t take no for an answer. Because the sales world is a cruel one – sink or swim, fly or die. One day you’re in – the other day you’re out.
Salespeople are one of the most important in the company. After all, what is the point of your super great product or service if you can’t and don’t know how to sell it?
Salespeople are always in the right place at the right time. They know when to approach a potential customer and when to withdraw (and approach again).
They know what problems clients and potential clients are facing. They will also find creative ways to suggest to customers how they can solve them. What is more, salespeople will reach out to you before you even realize you need help, as a true superhero does.
On some occasions, they are in their sharp suits like Superman. Sometimes hidden and mysterious like Batman.
They will bind you with their Golden lasso like Wonder Woman. Moneyed (this is a superpower, right?), tech-savvy and thick-armored like Iron Man. Quick to react and respond like Spiderman and even goofy and quick-witted like Deadpool when need be.
They have a sidekick like a true superhero. This sidekick can come in the form of a sales assistant, business development manager or sales tool.
We believe all of these superheroes are somehow part of every salesperson, but if you’d rather choose you can pick which one you most resemble.
Superman
Just like Clark Kent, salespeople are usually well mannered, dressed in tailored suits and even a bit reserved. But once they have their sales suit (or hat?) on – there’s no limit to what they can do. Their stamina and superhuman strength break through the thickest walls and iron doors.
Their X-ray vision helps them see right through the person and find out what their needs, wishes, and pains are. And then they attack those points without hesitation.
Clients don’t give negative answers to good sales professionals.
Batman
Sometimes they are covered with a veil of mystery, not a mask, but hidden behind emails and phones – they are always there when you need them. Sometimes even too often.
Their intelligence and detective abilities will provide them with any information they need.
They will find the right prospect and close the deal. They know what you buy, how often and how much you pay for it, as well as your troubles, your aspirations, and your fears.
The only difference is that not many of them are loners but never underestimate the quiet ones.
Wonder Woman
Salesperson’s Golden lasso is their charm and persuasiveness. Skillfully, by using words and body language they will seduce you into telling all your troubles. And before you’re even aware of their superpowers, you will have agreed on buying their product/services on their terms.
A customer’s truth is the sales professional’s strongest weapon. A good salesman’s clients are practically persuading themselves into buying.
Like Wonder Woman, salespeople go where others will not dare set afoot. They can rise from any situation, recover from any failure and become even stronger, better and faster.
Ironman
Just like Ironman, good salespeople are excellent businessmen, flushed with money and they well deserve it. What’s more, sales professionals will usually use it to improve themselves and their performance. Be it a better suit or a better email tracking or sales tool.
Similar to Ironman, they are very tech-oriented. They know the latest software that will improve their selling and conversions and they are not afraid to use it. They know all the tips and tricks to find the leads perfect for client’s business needs and always have a phone, tablet, and laptop within their reach.
Salespeople take almost a scientific approach with their sales efforts. Not only are they researching their market and niche, but they are also infinitely experimenting until they discover the best approach.
Spiderman
Salespeople are quick to react to every situation that they encounter. They know what to do with a „No“, with an indecisive prospect, with the ever-changing market and with a warehouse full of products. Nothing can come as a surprise.
Salespeople will realize a client wants the product/service before a client himself does. Sales professionals can use the latest technology or the oldest trick in the book – anything goes.
Like Spiderman, salespeople see into the future. They know what’s in store (literally) before anyone else, they see the next best thing and want you to realize it, too.
You can say salespeople have their own web, too, except in their case it’s a web of contacts.
Deadpool
Naturally, being in the business that a lot of people look down on, a salesperson has to have a developed sense of humor and cynicism. Looking at the sales too seriously and hearing all those Nos can drive a man without a positive outlook on the world insane.
Sales professionals are resilient to the negative attitude. They recognize the irony and the malice of the world in a second. They let it bounce off of them and use their humor as a charm to seduce any prospect into agreeing to a salesperson’s proposal.
So, which superhero are you?
Being a superhero is never an easy task, but the rewards come in the form of glory and success even if it’s only in your office among your colleagues.
And the joy of helping, oh the joy. Salespeople don’t sell without a purpose. They can help a new startup reach a vast number of users. They can take the burden off their clients’ backs and reach a wider audience or even save a company from almost certain doom. Client’s success is their success.
Pick your superhero mask, if you didn’t already, and wear it every day to work. Use your superpowers to keep the old clients and gain new ones. Unleash your power by targeting precisely those who are probably interested in your product or service. How will you know who they are?
Simply determine your target audience and your Buyer Persona and then reach out to them.
